Starting Over At 45

I’m starting over at 45.

At the beginning of 2026, I left my role with Turnipblood Entertainment. Turns out, when you’re successful in the events world… you work weekends. (Who knew? 🤯🤪)

When I realized Kaleif’s final theater performance landed the same weekend as my biggest event of the year, I knew something had to shift. I didn’t spend most of our kids’ lives as a SAHM just to start missing the moments that matter. 😢

It was a hard decision, though. My ego really liked the book of business I was building. It felt good saying, “I run the stage at X event,” or “I book the talent, coordinate the stage, and run operations.”

But it hit me even harder when teammates shared they rarely attend events unless they’re working them. Weekends—fun, music, experiences—are Jacob’s and my favorite pastime. I don’t want every one of mine to be work.

Through this process, I’ve learned that sometimes you have to discover what you don’t want in order to realize what you do want.

We also grieved the loss of four family members over the holidays, and the truth got loud: life is too short to keep moving toward a destination that no longer fits.

So now, a new chapter.

I joined the team at Life Time Fort Worth Alliance and started teaching there last week. I hadn’t taken a big group class since pre-COVID, and I forgot how much I missed it. Group fitness was my gateway drug, after all. 🥳

Right now I’m teaching Pilates at 5:15pm and Warrior Sculpt at 6:30pm on Thursdays. Warrior Sculpt is heated (90 degrees), which will be a first for me—but I’m excited to grow there and hopefully pick up more classes over time.

I’m also incredibly grateful that Jacob does such an amazing job providing for our family. It gave me the freedom to shift gears when I felt called to. That said, Texas A&M isn’t cheap, and it means a lot to me to help put our kids through college. And while I love wearing my yoga hat again, I don’t feel called to fully pivot back into the fitness industry.

Instead, I’m coming full circle.

I’m betting on myself as a content creator.

A friend offered to mentor me in what he does—creating User Generated Content for brands. He makes a full-time living doing it. I actually have more than a decade of experience creating content… I was just always trying to sell myself as the service. This time, I’m creating content for other people to use to promote their stuff.

It’s kind of wild when I think about it. I was a Radio-TV-Film major at TCU but couldn’t find steady work in the industry after graduating twenty-five years ago. The truth is, though, I was lying to myself about why I was there. I was, have always been, and still am… a performer.

In college I focused on casting instead of acting because I learned in a Business of Media class that the odds of making it as an actress were about one in a million, while casting directors had about a one in a hundred chance. I liked those odds better—so casting it was.

I even worked for the only casting director in DFW right out of college, but the environment became toxic and I couldn’t stay. That’s when I fell into fitness in 2003. I didn’t know what else to do.

But the industry has changed so much since then. Content creation is everywhere now. And while I probably wouldn’t have the guts to take this leap without a successful friend leading the way, I’m incredibly grateful—and honestly over the moon—to have already received my first positive review from a paying client.

Here’s my demo reel advertising my first “gig” on Fiverr. If you or someone you know needs content to help with their product’s marketing campaign, please connect us!

While I grow my client base and build my portfolio—and since I just cleared my calendar of all the events I had been working with Turnipblood—I’m also leaning back into workshops and community events this spring.

Join me for Meditation 101 on March 21st from 1:30–4:30pm at Life Time Fort Worth Alliance. Members can register in the Life Time app, and non-members can sign up by calling the club front desk, (817) 750-7000

Also… Fort Worth Fire Beats is coming back under a new name. After the event changed ownership, we decided it was time to rebrand. Daisy’s One World performance troupe is now hosting OneDerBeats.

We’ll kick things off with yoga with me at 7pm, followed by a two-hour drum circle, an open fire circle with live performers (burners—bring your toys!), multiple DJs, and all kinds of incredible performers. Come enjoy the good vibes of a mini music festival on Saturday, April 18th in Funky Town.

And finally, I’ll be holding space and Dancing It Out with the ladies on May 2nd at Keller Yoga for the next Red Tent Women’s Circle. Save the date! These gatherings are for those born with a uterus who currently have—or once had—a menstrual cycle. Nursing babies are welcome with mama.

Let’s sweat our prayers and remember what it feels like to embrace and honor our feminine nature.

I hope to see you soon.

Until then, I’m sending you peace, love, and fairy dust. ✨<3
